Ftth network in Saint Petersbourg

Implementation date: First implementation in 2008. Implementation scheduled over a three-year period.

Product family: Cabling
Product names: H-PACe Compact Tube; one OF subscriber cable

Issues:

The main telecom operator in the north-western region of Russia, North West Telecom (NWT), wanted to modernise its out-of-date network. NWT decided to deploy a global optical-fibre FTTH network in place of its copper pair cables (some of which were over 100 years old). Logically, this modernisation began with the largest city in Russia, Saint Petersburg, with its 3.5 million residents. Depending on its results, the network’s deployment is due to be extended to other large town and cities in the region.
As initial installations highlighted the limitations of a “conventional” solution with several vertical cables and distribution via patch cables, NWT asked its suppliers to find a more suitable solution.

Area covered: City of Saint Petersburg.
The project may be extended to other north-western towns and cities managed by the Russian operator North-West Telecom.

ACOME solution:

The solution proposed by Konnekt, with ACOME cables and Tyco accessories, was found to be the most advantageous in terms of quality and cost. It offers potentially rapid deployment, less risk of damaged fibres, and reduced costs. The speed of response and flexibility offered by ACOME, which was prepared to supply different types of cables depending on the building concerned, was the key factor in choosing ACOME.
