Kourou space launch centre

Implementation date: 2006-2008

Product family: Cabling
Product names: Optical fibre cables; various types of copper-pair cables for telephone access and low-voltage applications.

Issues:

The existing space launch facilities on the Kourou base, which was built in 1981, required modernisation by installing modern technologies to serve the two future space shuttles launched from Kourou. ACOME proposed the appropriate products, which conform to the international standards and also provide the protective systems essential to the planned outdoor facilities.

Area covered: The space launch base covers an area of approximately 700 km²; 200 km of optical fibre cabling and 150 km of copper-pair cabling have been installed.

ACOME solution:

The wide variety of cables that ACOME offers provided guaranteed enhanced protection against the rodents and insects found in that part of the world and threatened the existing system’s safety. They ensured that the system could provide a flexible and lasting solution.
