The Global pact

By embracing the 10 principles of the UN’s Global Compact, ACOME is making a commitment to supporting a set of fundamental values in all its practices: human rights, labour, environmental protection, the battle against corruption, etc. This daily involvement benefits everyone concerned.

What is the Global Compact?

The Global Compact is an initiative launched in 1999 by the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan. This new charter was launched in 2000, in New York. Its signatories (companies, UN organisations, workers’ associations and non-governmental organisations) make a commitment to adhere to the 10 main principles concerning human rights, labour, and the environment.

10 main principles

Like all other signatories, by signing the Global Compact, ACOME is making a commitment to:

1. Support and respect the protection of internationally-recognised human rights,

2. Ensure that it is not an accomplice to violation of basic human rights,

3. Support the freedom of association and effectively recognise the right to collective bargaining,

4. Support the elimination of all forms of forced labour or labour done under coercion,

5. Eradicate child labour,

6. Support the abolition of discriminatory practices in hiring and employment,

7. Maintain a preventive focus that benefits the environment,

8. Promote initiatives that call for greater environmental responsibility,

9. Favour the development and spread of environmentally-friendly technologies,

10. Work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
