ACOME won the New Materials 2025 Trophy for its rePET® innovation.
The rePET® compound has been recognised with this prestigious award by L'Usine Nouvelle. This accolade recognises a significant technological advancement in automotive wiring, driven by the dedication of our Materials teams.
rePET® is the first recycled PET insulation solution for the automotive industry.
The product of several years of development, rePET® is a patented compound that incorporates up to 70% recycled PET sourced from bottles collected in France and across Europe. It is a new generation of automotive insulation that combines technical performance with reduced environmental impact.
Its benefits are clear:
- Up to 53% lower CO₂ emissions than conventional insulation.
- 4-13% weight saving on cables, contributing to the production of lightweight vehicles.
- Compliance with automotive requirements, including Ultra-Thin Wall (UTW).
- Circular design: recycling of non-reusable waste from the food and cosmetics industries.
A turning point for the industry!
rePET® is a first for the automotive sector, where the use of recycled PET has until now been ruled out for technical reasons. Our teams have overcome these obstacles, paving the way for more sustainable electrical architectures.
In an electric vehicle, rePET® can already reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 2.6 kg. of CO₂ emissions to be avoided by targeting small cross-section wires (0.13–0.50 mm²), i.e. 66% of the total wiring.
What about tomorrow? When combined with recycled copper, a 0.35 mm² rePET® cable could reduce carbon impact by up to 66%.
